But there <em data-start=\"174\" data-end=\"178\">is<\/em> a clear way to think about it.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"211\" data-end=\"238\">Why you make art matters<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"239\" data-end=\"275\">People create for different reasons:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"277\" data-end=\"458\">\n<li data-start=\"277\" data-end=\"363\">\n<p data-start=\"279\" data-end=\"363\"><strong data-start=\"279\" data-end=\"291\">To sell.<\/strong> You make art because it is your job or an important source of income.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"364\" data-end=\"458\">\n<p data-start=\"366\" data-end=\"458\"><strong data-start=\"366\" data-end=\"390\">To express yourself.<\/strong> You make art to tell your story, to understand life, to feel alive.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"460\" data-end=\"525\">Both reasons are valid. Many artists carry both at the same time.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"555\" data-end=\"777\">If you create only to sell, then success is simple: did it sell or not?<br data-start=\"626\" data-end=\"629\" \/>If it didn\u2019t sell, that hurts your wallet, but it does not have to hurt your soul. You can try again, change the price, the channel, or the audience.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"810\" data-end=\"1048\">If you create to express yourself, rejection feels different.<br data-start=\"871\" data-end=\"874\" \/>When nobody wants to hear your story, it hurts more than not selling. It can make you doubt your voice. That pain is real, and it is the core of the \u201cexhibit or not\u201d question.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"1050\" data-end=\"1064\">The paradox<\/h2>\n<ul data-start=\"1065\" data-end=\"1178\">\n<li data-start=\"1065\" data-end=\"1119\">\n<p data-start=\"1067\" data-end=\"1119\">If you <strong data-start=\"1074\" data-end=\"1091\">don\u2019t exhibit<\/strong>, your story stays untold.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1120\" data-end=\"1178\">\n<p data-start=\"1122\" data-end=\"1178\">If you <strong data-start=\"1129\" data-end=\"1143\">do exhibit<\/strong>, it\u2019s possible no one will listen.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1180\" data-end=\"1202\">So what should you do?<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1226\" data-end=\"1264\">Before you decide, change the measure:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1266\" data-end=\"1554\">\n<li data-start=\"1266\" data-end=\"1343\">\n<p data-start=\"1268\" data-end=\"1343\"><strong data-start=\"1268\" data-end=\"1280\">Process:<\/strong> Did the work change you? Did you say what you needed to say?<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1344\" data-end=\"1462\">\n<p data-start=\"1346\" data-end=\"1462\"><strong data-start=\"1346\" data-end=\"1361\">Connection:<\/strong> Did even one person truly connect? One honest conversation can be worth more than a hundred likes.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1463\" data-end=\"1554\">\n<p data-start=\"1465\" data-end=\"1554\"><strong data-start=\"1465\" data-end=\"1478\">Learning:<\/strong> Did you discover what to do next? Each show is research for the next piece.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1556\" data-end=\"1650\">With these measures, showing your work becomes less about winning and more about learning.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1696\" data-end=\"1732\">Not exhibiting does not mean hiding:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1734\" data-end=\"2033\">\n<li data-start=\"1734\" data-end=\"1802\">\n<p data-start=\"1736\" data-end=\"1802\">Share with a small circle<strong data-start=\"1749\" data-end=\"1765\">, <\/strong>friends, mentors, a private group.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1803\" data-end=\"1869\">\n<p data-start=\"1805\" data-end=\"1869\">Publish work-in-progress notes on your site or newsletter.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1870\" data-end=\"1910\">\n<p data-start=\"1872\" data-end=\"1910\">Do studio visits by appointment.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1911\" data-end=\"1950\">\n<p data-start=\"1913\" data-end=\"1950\">Trade critiques with other artists.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1951\" data-end=\"2033\">\n<p data-start=\"1953\" data-end=\"2033\">Set a date to review this choice again. Avoid staying invisible by accident.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"2035\" data-end=\"2100\">This keeps your story alive while you build strength and clarity.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"2102\" data-end=\"2129\">If you choose to exhibit<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"2130\" data-end=\"2161\">Make it gentle and intentional:<\/p>\n<ol data-start=\"2163\" data-end=\"2758\">\n<li data-start=\"2163\" data-end=\"2242\">\n<p data-start=\"2166\" data-end=\"2242\"><strong data-start=\"2166\" data-end=\"2182\">Start small.<\/strong> A pop-up, a caf\u00e9 wall, a hallway show, a one-night event.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2243\" data-end=\"2329\">\n<p data-start=\"2246\" data-end=\"2329\"><strong data-start=\"2246\" data-end=\"2266\">Frame the story.<\/strong> A clear title and a short text help people enter your world.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2330\" data-end=\"2448\">\n<p data-start=\"2333\" data-end=\"2448\"><strong data-start=\"2333\" data-end=\"2363\">Invite the right audience.<\/strong> People who might care: peers, writers, curators, friends who bring good questions.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2449\" data-end=\"2541\">\n<p data-start=\"2452\" data-end=\"2541\"><strong data-start=\"2452\" data-end=\"2480\">Design for conversation.<\/strong> A guest book, a QR code for feedback, a short artist talk.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2542\" data-end=\"2633\">\n<p data-start=\"2545\" data-end=\"2633\"><strong data-start=\"2545\" data-end=\"2569\">Protect your energy.<\/strong> Plan breaks. Decide how you will handle silence or criticism.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2634\" data-end=\"2758\">\n<p data-start=\"2637\" data-end=\"2758\"><strong data-start=\"2637\" data-end=\"2650\">Document.<\/strong> Good photos, a simple video walk-through, and a page on your site keep the show alive after the night ends.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2 data-start=\"2760\" data-end=\"2790\">A simple decision framework<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"2791\" data-end=\"2819\">Ask yourself five questions:<\/p>\n<ol data-start=\"2821\" data-end=\"3139\">\n<li data-start=\"2821\" data-end=\"2864\">\n<p data-start=\"2824\" data-end=\"2864\"><strong data-start=\"2824\" data-end=\"2836\">Why now?<\/strong> (sell, express, or both?)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2865\" data-end=\"2929\">\n<p data-start=\"2868\" data-end=\"2929\"><strong data-start=\"2868\" data-end=\"2888\">Who is this for?<\/strong> (general public, a niche, one person?)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2930\" data-end=\"3005\">\n<p data-start=\"2933\" data-end=\"3005\"><strong data-start=\"2933\" data-end=\"2961\">Where belongs this work?<\/strong> (gallery, online, street, company lobby?)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3006\" data-end=\"3088\">\n<p data-start=\"3009\" data-end=\"3088\"><strong data-start=\"3009\" data-end=\"3028\">What is enough?<\/strong> (one honest conversation, five pre-orders, ten sign-ups?)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3089\" data-end=\"3139\">\n<p data-start=\"3092\" data-end=\"3139\"><strong data-start=\"3092\" data-end=\"3116\">What will I do next?<\/strong> (no matter the result)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p data-start=\"3141\" data-end=\"3192\">Write your answers. The decision will become clear.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"3194\" data-end=\"3204\">My view<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"3205\" data-end=\"3450\">Art is a conversation. If you feel ready to speak, exhibit<strong data-start=\"3256\" data-end=\"3267\">, <\/strong>even in a small way. If you are not ready, share selectively and keep building the work until your voice feels strong.
