The ‘Patterns of Chaos’ is a collection of generative art pieces where I explore patterns found in chaos. Using a special algorithm, I uncover these patterns and shapes. Each artwork employs pixel art in a unique manner. These algorithm-generated patterns are then carefully combined by hand to produce one-of-a-kind artworks.
I created a generative algorithm using the PHP programming language. PHP is commonly used for web development due to its server-side capabilities, making it accessible through internet browsers. Additionally, with the extension of the gd library, it can handle graphics effectively. However, since PHP isn’t primarily designed for generative art, I had to build most of the functionality from scratch.
The foundation of my generative art is an algorithm called strange attractor. Strange attractors are patterns and shapes that emerge when a nonlinear, dynamic system enters a state of chaos. The juxtaposition of ‘chaos’ and ‘pattern’ is inherently paradoxical, making it a perfect subject for artistic exploration.
Perhaps you’re curious about what nonlinear systems entail. Well, they’re all around us. Consider the stock market, the crypto market, fluid waves, weather patterns, ecological systems, traffic, and more. While they may seem unpredictable, over time, they develop distinct patterns. These patterns, which emerge in chaos, can be mathematically described using strange attractors.
Viewing it through this lens, the collection ‘The Patterns of Chaos’ vividly illustrates the realities that surround us — the intricate patterns found in the stock market, the crypto market, fluid dynamics, weather phenomena, ecological systems, traffic flow, and beyond.
I employed 8 distinct and customized versions of the strange attractor algorithm, which I personally developed. In addition to these versions, each one comprises four distinct parameters that can fluctuate within specified ranges. These parameters are randomly determined while adhering to the defined range limits.
During the creative process, I generated thousands of patterns to select the right parameters and to choose the best results. Depending on the artwork I aimed to create, I had to blend many of these patterns into a single piece.
The collection comprises 10 exceptionally unique artworks, each telling its own story of the universe and life. However, all of them are connected by a common theme: a mathematical and philosophical exploration of chaos.
The entire collection is minted on the Ethereum blockchain, ready to make your walls truly unique.
